Australia’s Cyber Week 2018 launches in Melbourne

Minister for Law Enforcement and Cyber Security Angus Taylor today opened Australia’s Cyber Week, a showcase of Australia’s vibrant cyber security sector.

The launch at the Melbourne Joint Cyber Security Centre (JCSC) will be followed by a week-long program of events and workshops.

Cyber Week is an initiative of AustCyber – the Australian Cyber Security Growth Network.

Minister Taylor said Cyber Week will see hundreds of representatives from industry, education and government meet with students and innovators.

“Cyber Week is an important opportunity to bring together domestic and international players who are contributing to the growth of Australia’s cyber security sector,” Mr Taylor said.

“With global demand for cyber security solutions tipped to surpass $330 billion by 2026, we must position ourselves as a leader in this market.

“This Government has invested $47 million in the JCSC program to facilitate stronger partnerships between more than 150 organisations across private and public sectors.”

AustCyber CEO Michelle Price said the annual Cyber Week offering has expanded since it was first delivered in 2017.

“In only its second year, Cyber Week has grown to include independent product launches, panel discussions and interactive sessions organised by stakeholders as well as the opening of a new cyber security training centre at a Victorian TAFE,” Ms Price said.

“This is in addition to the activities directly managed and coordinated by AustCyber this week, which include workshops, strategy meetings, networking events and its anchor event – SINET61, a two-day conference for innovators, investors and buyers.”

“We are anticipating deal flow, investments and new partnerships to emerge from Cyber Week and encourage anyone interested to follow our hashtag #AUCyberWeek18 and get involved in the discussion.”

Cyber Week 2018 is taking place in Melbourne and there are still opportunities to participate in some events, with details available at www.austcyber.com/CyberWeek2018.
