Pacific 2013: Australia's DSTO expands links with Thales, ASC

Australia's Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) has further expanded ties with industry through partnership agreements with Thales Australia and local shipbuilder ASC.

The accords, announced on 8 October, are geared towards research and development (R&D) in a number of defence capability areas and form part of what the Australian Department of Defence (DoD) "reinvigorated" defence industry alliance programme.

The DSTO-Thales arrangement will cover armaments, underwater systems, and land systems, while the DSTO-ASC agreement will focus on technologies to support the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) Collins-class submarines.

The two partnership agreements were announced one day after the DSTO signed a similar R&D accord with BAE Systems Australia.
